The Secret Diary of Lady Catherine Bexley
By Viveka Portman

In an era when marriages were made by your father rather than in heaven, from the books
inception, Lord Joseph Bexley doesn't take the form of your typical romantic hero. Though he’s undoubtedly gentle on the eye, is quick of wit and generous to a fault - he is older than most, and considered a man of utmost propriety and
discipline; two characteristics that would drive any red blooded young woman to distraction.
I had a great deal of fun writing Lord Joseph, I simply didn’t want him to be your standard Regency romantic hero, and he certainly doesn’t disappoint! Many women in regency times
married men older than themselves and I really wanted the differences in attitude and understandings to be the main source of angst between my hero and his heroine. Lord Bexley
insists on treating his young wife like the ‘lady’ she is, but there’s a problem. Catherine doesn’t want to be treated like a ‘lady’ she wants to be treated like a woman instead! It isn’t the worldly Lord corrupting the young innocent wife in this book. No, Catherine Bexley has to use
all her wits to get Lord Joseph to give her what she truly wants. It’s this conflict and the unusual interplay between my characters that I think makes Lord Joseph Bexley a truly unique and fascinating hero.

Want to know more?

“I have never seen fit in my life to divulge my secrets in a diary, yet now, after today’s proceedings, I do…”

Lady Catherine Bexley is new to marriage and the marriage bed, but surely there must
be more to it than this? Her husband is proper and perfunctory — treating her with careful respect but leaving her aching for more.

When she witnesses a gentleman disciplining a maid at a house party, the ache explodes into ravenous desire. She finds herself no longer willing to wait for her husband’s stiff and passionless attentions — and soon develops a naughty plan to finally get what she wants.

But wait there's more:

I completely agree with Kendall and Tara, Viveka - it's a wonderful cover! It reminds me a bit of that movie, Quills, in which the Marquis de Sade ended up writing on his own body for want of other writing surfaces.
I love the idea for the book, too. It sounds like just the sort of situation that might have actually occurred! I hope it encourages women everywhere to spice up their marriages!

I love the sound of this book. I'm intrigued as to how Catherine is going to 'heat things up a little' in the bed department. Can't wait to read this one. Thanks for a great post Kendall and Viveka.

Wow, thank you for the responses ladies. This story was so much fun to write. I'd been inspired to write it for years, but never had, until now... I'm so glad I did. I love the tension between the characters and I do imagine this situation would have occurred, and in a time where propriety is of utmost importance... how on earth would a woman ever get what she wants and retain her dignity? LOL, I had fun imagining. Thank you again for the lovely comments.
