The Positive Traits Thesaurus: A writers guide to character attributes by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi
Whilst I don't use this as much as the book to the left, I do resort to it when I need help developing a character. |
The Negative Trait Thesaurus: A writers guide to character flaws by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi
This book offers a vast collection of possible flaws you could explore for your characters. Very useful tool to pop into your writers toolbox. Along with character flaws it also provides possible causes, attitudes, behaviors, thoughts and related emotions. |

Save The Cat! the Last book on screenwriting you'll ever need, by Blake Snyder
I know this book is about screenwriting, but it translates perfectly into book writing. My editor suggested this to me when I was struggling with the middle of Lost in Kakadu. What I learnt helped me immensely in producing my next 2 manuscripts as well. |
Social Media Secrets for Authors: A beginners guide for Blogging, Twitter, Facebook and Goodreads, by Dara Beevas
The title says it all. I was so new to all the marketing aspects of becoming an author and resorting to a guide like this was a huge help. |

Again, the title says it all. This book offers techniques for crafting strong beginnings, middles and ends. Has easy to follow diagrams and charts and fabulous brain storming techniques. |

Kendall's all time favourite fiction books:
The Rosie Project. A Novel by Graeme Simsion
This is one of the funniest books I've read. I laughed aloud several times, even embarrassed myself on a flight by laughing out loud. It was easily my favourite book of 2013. |
Deception Point by Dan Brown
This is one of my favourite page turning thrillers. With adventure, romance, murder, deceit and extreme tension, this is a novel I just can't put down. I rank this higher than his Da Vinci Code. |
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
This is my favourite novel written in the first person and a dead one at that. The book fascinated me so much I cleared my whole weekend schedule to read it and I haven't done that very often. |
Ice Station by Matthew Reilly
This is one of my favourite authors. This book I've read many times over. Sure it's over the top and extreme adventure but hey fiction is meant to take you on a journey and this book does it for me. |
River God by Wilbur Smith
Here's another one of my favourite authors. This book is set in ancient Egypt and having travelled to Egypt myself I'm fascinated by it's history. This highly acclaimed bestseller is clever, imaginative, exciting and very memorable. |
The Reef by Nora Roberts
This is one of my favourite romance novels. I love to read romance that's also rich with action, adventure and suspense. A page turner with fascinating characters. This book has it all. |
